Note: We used to use the Yahoo group membership to determine our active roster headcount, but have recently changed this to meeting attendance instead. To remain in our active headcount, you must personally attend at least one meeting a year.

History

NWNUG was established for the purpose of getting community together to learn about the new Microsoft .NET platform. At our first inaugural meeting, several members from the community - including developers, students, professors, and professionals - were in attendance. A monthly meeting is usually held on the last Tuesday of every month.

Over the last few years, NWNUG has celebrated significant milestones:

  • Charter member of INETA (2002)
  • Created Quizzard, the .NET open source "game show". (Rajiv Menon, Greg Huber, Tim Mahaney, Balaji Ganesan) This application was among the first of it's kind: it featured a groucho-marx looking vulture that taunted and teased the players. Greg and Rajiv divided the room up into groups and Quizzard posed pertinent .NET / community trivia questions. Quizzard helped NWNUG attain some fame. It was first presented at several area users groups, then at others across the US, and finally, at ASP.NET Connections by Paul Litwin. Word of Quizzard even made it to Scott Guthrie (the "father of ASP.NET"). Julia Lehrman was the official cheerleader of the application and helped build excitement.
  • Over the years, the NWNUG has attended developer events such as the MSDN Cafe and .NET Pub Clubs. Additional community events include Code Camps and Day of .NET. Stay tuned for more of these events.
  • NWNUG has opened its doors to area and regional presenters, and even brought up several of its own. Area presenters include Josh Holmes, Bill Wagner, John Hopkins (GANG), Ken Kutz, Greg Huber, Jason Follas, Dustin Campbell (NWNUG), Drew Robbins (Columbus). Other presenters of note are Patrick Santry (W3Coder), Johnathan Cogley (Test Driven Development) and several INETA speakers including Rocky Lhotka, Paul Litwin and Mike Amundsen

NWNUG speakers frequently share with other area user groups and prides itself on collaborating.
